How do I find out if a teacher is qualified to instruct my child? - Meet with the teacher, they should bring their qualifications.

How do I know my child is being taught within the framework of a standardised code of practice? - The teacher should be registered with the ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians). Full members adhere to the Society's code of practice.

How do I know my child is in a safe environment while being taught? - Parents should be welcomed and encouraged to attend the first lesson, and future lessons. The teacher should have in their possession Police Enhanced Disclosure which ensures that the teacher has no criminal convictions.

How can I check on my childs progress? - The teacher should provide periodic progress reports, and should be amenable to contact by the parent.

 

Always check a prospective teachers qualifications... The Teacher should be a full member of the ISM... Attend lessons (especially the first)... Progress reports should be provided...

Music making should be fun, and enjoyable.
